Amanda Seyfried Hires Bodyguard Following Controversial Remarks on Charlie Kirk
Amanda Seyfried revealed she hired a bodyguard after making controversial statements regarding Charlie Kirk's assassination, expressing concerns for her safety.
Amanda Seyfried has disclosed that she felt compelled to hire a bodyguard after making contentious comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This revelation came during an interview with British GQ, published on Monday, where the actress spoke about her fears for personal safety after labeling the conservative political figure as "hateful" following his tragic shooting at a university last fall.
Reflecting on the backlash she faced, Seyfried stated, "A, I’m allowed to voice my feelings, and B, do it in a way that’s not unkind necessarily. But there’s just an outsized fear and hatred and impulse to bash and to tear down. And I experienced a very small fraction of that."
Seyfried, who is 40 years old, expressed her desire for her children to feel secure in voicing their opinions, provided those opinions are not harmful. She remarked, "So I’m like, ‘What do I do? What do I say?’ And then all of a sudden I find myself with a f–king bodyguard at the airport and I’m like, ‘This is crazy.’"
Kirk was shot and killed in September 2025 while he was on stage at Utah Valley University as part of his American Comeback Tour. He was 31 years old at the time of his death and is survived by his wife, Erika Kirk, and their two children—a nearly 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.
Seyfried, who shares two children with her husband, Thomas Sadoski, including a 9-year-old daughter named Nina and a 5-year-old son named Thomas, initially defended her remarks about Kirk on social media. In an Instagram post, she stated, "We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence."
She concluded her post by emphasizing the broader societal issue of violence, stating, "This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?"
In a subsequent interview with Who What Wear in December 2025, Seyfried stood firm in her stance and declined to apologize for her previous comments. She remarked, "I mean, for f–ks sake, I commented on one thing. I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course."
