United Airlines Unveils ‘Stars and Stripes’ Paint Scheme for America’s 250th Anniversary
United Airlines has announced the launch of a special ‘Stars and Stripes’ paint scheme on two aircraft to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States this summer.
United Airlines has introduced a special paint scheme, titled ‘Stars and Stripes,’ that will adorn two of its aircraft in celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary. This new livery features fifty stars on a deep blue background alongside seven red and white stripes and is set to take to the skies this summer.
The aircraft featuring this distinctive design will be a Boeing 787-10 and a Boeing 737-800. United's CEO, Scott Kirby, expressed the significance of this initiative during the unveiling event held at United’s hangar located at Washington-Dulles International Airport on Monday. Kirby stated, "United Airlines plays a front and center role in spreading (American) culture and those traditions around the globe."
United Airlines becomes the third airline to launch a special livery ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Earlier this year, both Southwest Airlines and American Airlines also revealed their unique liveries to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
In addition to United's initiative, there is a separate collaboration between Boeing and the Department of Transportation featuring the “Freedom Plane.” This aircraft is currently on a tour, transporting several of the nation's founding documents to museums across the country.
The painting of United's planes took place in Amarillo, Texas, and includes a commemorative plaque dedicated to service members and veterans who are employed by the airline. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, present at the unveiling event in Virginia, remarked, "In a time where we can sometimes be a bit divided, our birthday of this great country unites us."
