RB Leipzig Issues Transfer Ultimatum to Yan Diomande Following Liverpool Bid Rejection
RB Leipzig has rejected a €100 million offer from Liverpool for winger Yan Diomande, as the club seeks to retain the player with a new contract until at least 2027.
Andoni Iraola's aspirations to acquire the talented Ivory Coast player Yan Diomande have encountered significant obstacles. Liverpool recently activated the 22-year-old's release clause by paying €40 million (£34.5 million), recognizing his versatility and impressive performance on both wings and centrally when needed.
Shortly after the initial transaction, it was disclosed that Liverpool had made a substantial offer of up to €100 million (£86 million) for the RB Leipzig winger. Diomande, currently representing Ivory Coast in the World Cup, has been identified as Liverpool's primary transfer target.
Despite the club's intentions to secure Diomande, their offer was swiftly turned down by RB Leipzig, who are reportedly seeking a fee closer to €130 million (£112.6 million).
In response to the situation, RB Leipzig has indicated their willingness to present Diomande with a significantly enhanced contract. However, this offer comes with the stipulation that he must commit to the club until at least the summer of 2027.
Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer expert, elaborated on the situation, stating, "The intention of Leipzig remains to try and keep the player. Leipzig really want to keep the player, offering a new contract, give a better salary, put a release clause, go wherever you want in summer 2027. This is what RB Leipzig are offering Diomande."
Romano also indicated that Diomande is enticed by the prospect of a transfer immediately following the World Cup, creating a 50/50 dilemma regarding his future.
Despite their recent bid being turned down, Liverpool is expected to make another attempt to secure Diomande, as the club views him as a crucial target.
In addition to Diomande, several other prominent wingers are on Liverpool's radar as Iraola seeks to rejuvenate the team's attacking options following the exit of Mohamed Salah. Among these potential targets is Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with Romano reminding supporters not to overlook him.
Other players believed to be under consideration if Liverpool's pursuit of Diomande or Barcola falls through include Said El Mala from Koln, Yankuba Minteh from Brighton, and Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille.
On a different note, Liverpool is also rumored to be interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck as they aim to replace Ibrahima Konate, who recently transferred to Real Madrid. However, challenges may arise in this pursuit, as recent reports suggest Schlotterbeck has an inclination toward joining Real Madrid as well.
