Marc Cucurella Addresses Controversy in First Interview as Real Madrid Player
Marc Cucurella discusses his recent move to Real Madrid in a £51.8 million deal from Chelsea, addressing concerns from Barcelona fans about his transfer.
Marc Cucurella has officially joined Real Madrid in a transfer deal worth £51.8 million from Chelsea. This move comes amidst reports from the Spanish outlet COPE, which indicated that Cucurella had initially prioritized a return to his former club, Barcelona.

However, a transfer to Barcelona was deemed unrealistic due to the club's current situation in the transfer market, as they are focusing on acquiring a new forward. The decision by Cucurella to join Madrid has sparked discontent among some Barcelona supporters.
Cucurella, who spent eight years at Barcelona from 2012 to 2020, expressed in March that it would be challenging to decline an offer from his former club if it were presented. In his first interview with El Mundo as a Real Madrid player, he addressed the concerns of those fans who question his move to their rivals.

"I tell them that life has different stages," Cucurella stated. "In this case, I've had to make an important decision, and I have no doubts; I think it's a big step for me. When you're a kid, you dream of playing for big teams, and I think Real Madrid is one of them."
He further emphasized the prestige of the club, remarking, "They're the team with the most Champions League titles in the world, and I hope to win titles with them and have a wonderful time there."
Cucurella also praised Real Madrid's unique ability to stage comebacks in matches, saying, "Well, I think it's been seen many times in their historic comebacks. I think they have a mystique. I don't know how to put it, it's unpredictable."
He continued, "Very few people watching the matches can understand how Real Madrid can come back or win games when they seem to be on the ropes. To be able to be a part of it, to experience that feeling from the inside, to live through those magical nights is something that, as a footballer, I think everyone enjoys."
In this extensive interview, Cucurella conveyed that the chance to join Real Madrid was an opportunity he could not turn down. He stated, "Well, in the end there were different options, but when the offer from Real Madrid came along, I didn't hesitate. I think it's a unique opportunity."
He concluded by expressing the honor of playing for Real Madrid, saying, "Ultimately, playing for Real Madrid is an honor, and not many players can say that, so I had no doubts. I think both I and those around me, my family, were clear that it was an opportunity we couldn't refuse, and I'm very happy with the decision we made."
