The event marked a significant occasion for the family, as the sisters joined their parents, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, on stage during the ceremony.

For this notable event, Malia opted for a stylish plunging gray blazer paired with a skirt, complementing her look with her long auburn hair left down. Sasha also captured attention in an elegant off-the-shoulder white top and a matching skirt, which she accessorized with an oversized brown belt. Her hairstyle was a slicked-back half-up, half-down look, adding to her chic appearance.

The opening ceremony featured a lineup of star-studded musical performances, including notable artists such as Christina Aguilera, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, and Eddie Vedder. In attendance were other prominent figures, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, and Tom Hanks, contributing to the event's high-profile atmosphere.

The Obama Presidential Center, situated in South Side Chicago, encompasses a museum, various concert and event venues, public park space, and a new branch of the Chicago Public Library. The center was inaugurated in honor of Juneteenth, with festivities planned throughout the weekend to celebrate the holiday.

Since their father's presidency concluded in 2017, Malia, now 27, and Sasha, 25, have maintained a low profile, largely staying out of the public eye. The sisters were just 10 and 7 years old, respectively, when Barack Obama was elected as the President of the United States in 2008, and they have been under public scrutiny throughout their formative years, as their father served two terms in office.

Last month, the sisters made another rare appearance alongside their mother, Michelle Obama, to celebrate Mother’s Day. Michelle has spoken candidly about the challenges and pressures faced by their family during Barack's presidency. In a past interview on the "Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce" podcast, she expressed her desire to allow her daughters to have a normal teenage experience while managing the scrutiny that came with their father’s public role.

Michelle noted, "I wanted to give my girls enough rope to live and be normal teenagers, but I was also worrying about them turning up on Page Six because they were doing what normal kids would do. We’d have to build a real community of trust around them because I didn’t want them sitting home on Saturday night not understanding what it was like to be out and have a life before they went to college." She also revealed that her daughters are a significant reason she has chosen not to pursue a political career, as she wishes to protect them from the intense public attention that would accompany such a role.
