Lil Nas X Confirms Bipolar Diagnosis, Shares Update on New Music
Lil Nas X opens up about his recent mental health challenges, including a bipolar disorder diagnosis and his time in rehab, while hinting at new music in the future.
In August 2022, Lil Nas X was arrested in Los Angeles after being seen walking naked, an incident that was linked to a mental health crisis. Following this, he faced a felony police battery case and opted to step back from the public eye.
On Wednesday, the artist provided an update on his life through social media. He disclosed that he has been undergoing rehabilitation and therapy, revealing that he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
In his post, Lil Nas X stated, "First, where I’ve been: I’ve been in rehab for a few months, and since then I’ve been back at home, whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or Los Angeles with my friends … trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head," as reported by Billboard.
He further explained, "I have a therapist now and a psychiatrist, which has been really helpful. When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for the past few years, but I didn’t want to admit to it, ’cause I didn’t want to have to take medication and … I don’t know, have people think different of me. I mean, I’m already Black and gay. Like, ‘Damn, God. Come on.’ Black, gay, bipolar — I’m living life on extreme hard mode."
Regarding new music, Lil Nas X indicated that he has plans for upcoming releases but is not yet ready to share details. He expressed enthusiasm for the future, saying, "I’m not getting completely to that just yet, but I’m excited to do that, and I’m excited to go on this journey with you guys, this next chapter. S–t. We’ve been through so much together. Thank you, guys, for holding it down. I love you, and all I want to do is continue to try to make you proud."
Lil Nas X's candid revelations about his mental health journey are seen as a courageous step, and many are wishing him well as he navigates this chapter of his life.
