Lauren Graham reveals she receives no residual income from Gilmore Girls despite its Netflix success, expressing her enduring love for the series and hinting at a potential revival.
Lauren Graham, who is best known for her role as Lorelai Gilmore in the beloved television series Gilmore Girls, recently opened up about the lack of residual payments she receives from the show's continued popularity on Netflix. Despite the show's significant success, Graham stated that she gets 'no residuals' from the series, emphasizing that her compensation has been 'paid in love.'
Graham's experience is not unique; during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, fellow cast member Sean Gunn, who portrayed Kirk Gleason in the series, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he has also seen 'almost none' of the profits from the show's enduring success on the streaming platform, which has been available for over a decade.
While the financial benefits from Gilmore Girls have remained stagnant, Graham expressed her deep affection for the fictional town of Stars Hollow and is considering ways to revisit that universe. In a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, she mentioned the possibility of a new revival of Gilmore Girls, suggesting it could take the form of a holiday movie. 'Given everyone’s lives and schedules, it’s a Christmas movie,' Graham said. 'It’s literally what I could picture.'
In addition to Graham's reflections, her co-star Alexis Bledel, who played Rory Gilmore, has successfully forged her own path in the entertainment industry after Gilmore Girls. Bledel gained critical acclaim for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale, which earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2017.
