Kate Cassidy Opens Up About Breakup After Comparing New Boyfriend to Liam Payne
Kate Cassidy shared that she was recently broken up with after struggling to separate her new relationship from her late boyfriend, Liam Payne, who passed away in 2024.
Kate Cassidy is navigating a new chapter in her life following a breakup. The influencer, who had a two-year relationship with Liam Payne before his death in 2024, disclosed that her recent romantic involvement ended due to her ongoing comparisons of her new partner to the late One Direction member.
In a TikTok video posted on June 22, Cassidy expressed the challenges of dating after losing someone she believed she would spend her life with. She mentioned, 'Dating after losing somebody that you genuinely thought you were gonna spend the rest of your life with is really tough,' adding that she often finds herself looking for traits of Liam in the men she meets.
Cassidy highlighted the difficulty of her dating experience, stating, 'If they don't hit all the check marks, I tend to either back away or almost resent this person.' She described her most recent relationship with a man she called 'Joe,' noting that their romance progressed rapidly. 'Joe was really sweet and I feel like he was kind of like a lot of things that I wanted in a guy,' she remarked.

She appreciated Joe's low-key nature, as he did not have social media, and mentioned that she met his family and traveled with him. However, Cassidy acknowledged her mistakes in the relationship, admitting, 'I f--ked up.' She expressed feelings of frustration when Joe's actions differed from what she had experienced with Payne, leading to anger that affected their relationship.
Cassidy recounted that Joe texted her to suggest they go their separate ways due to the emotional burden of their relationship. 'He texted me yesterday and told me that we should go our separate ways because it's just too much. And I understand,' she stated, revealing her sadness over the loss. 'I feel sad because I don't like losing people, and I feel like, especially in the beginning of a situationship, it's so fun. And you're so excited to see where it goes.'

This breakup comes three months after Cassidy publicly hinted at her new relationship following Payne's tragic passing in October 2024 at the age of 31. However, she did not confirm whether Joe was the same individual she referenced in a March post.

Since Payne's death, Cassidy has openly discussed her grief, including the challenges she faced on emotionally significant days. In a Valentine’s Day TikTok, she stated, 'You don’t move on from grief. You move forward with it, carrying love in a different form. Keep living. Keep going. Live your life as fully as you possibly can.'

In remembrance of her time with Liam Payne, Cassidy has shared various heartfelt tributes, reflecting on their relationship and the deep love they shared.
