Irish TikTok Star Nia Gallagher Discusses Her Rise to Fame and Future Aspirations

Nia Gallagher, a 22-year-old TikTok sensation from County Longford, shares insights on her experiences in content creation, social media challenges, and future goals in an exclusive interview.

Nia Gallagher, an emerging TikTok personality from Ireland, has quickly built a substantial following, boasting over 340,000 followers on the platform. At just 22 years old, she has also garnered more than 22,000 followers on Instagram and collaborated with prominent brands such as Cadbury’s, Coca Cola, and Sports Direct.

In an exclusive interview for this week’s Up and Coming feature, Gallagher reflected on her journey, including her time in The Go House, which is recognized as Ireland's first content creation house. Gallagher explained that her experience there, which began two years ago, was transformative. She remarked, 'It honestly has changed my life. Coming from a little village in County Longford to the big smoke was life changing.' She emphasized the personal growth she experienced and the valuable connections she made while collaborating with other creators in the house.

The Go House, where Gallagher lived and created content with others, was active for four months before disbanding. She shared her thoughts on the experience, noting, 'Living with the same people day in, day out while creating content became exhausting. We all found that we had creative block. It was also during the Covid-19 lockdown, so we didn’t have the chance to see any of our family.' Despite her sadness at its conclusion, she expressed excitement to return home for the Christmas holiday.

After her time in the US, where she spent time on the West Coast, Gallagher described the social media environment there as intense, likening it to 'jumping into a pool full of sharks.' She noted the competitive nature of the industry, stating, 'If someone can’t benefit from you, they won’t speak to you.' Although she made lasting friendships during her stay, Gallagher expressed a preference for the East Coast, where she feels more connected to her Irish roots. She dreams of living in New York City in the future.

Gallagher discussed the challenges of dealing with negativity online, particularly personal attacks regarding her appearance and weight. She acknowledged the difficulty of facing hate but clarified, 'I don’t mind hate if it’s constructive or on my content.' She also shared her perspective on handling criticism, stating, 'My outlook is that if you have haters, you’re winning because they are your biggest fans.'

When asked about avoiding drama within the TikTok community, Gallagher emphasized her preference for staying out of controversies, stating, 'I’m not a controversial person, and just stay well away from the drama. I keep to myself and my TikTok friend group.' She believes that much of the drama stems from attention-seeking behavior, which she chooses to ignore, highlighting the importance of maintaining a positive digital footprint.

Gallagher also addressed her younger sister Lucy's potential future in social media, noting that Lucy does not have a TikTok account due to her age. However, she enjoys making videos with Gallagher. She expressed her support for Lucy's choices, saying, 'If she would like to be in the social media world in the future that is completely on her terms.'

When considering her influence, Gallagher was uncertain if she qualifies as a role model. She stated, 'I’m not sure if I’m that influential just yet to be considered a role model,' but expressed a desire to inspire others, particularly as she lacked Irish idols growing up.

Regarding a potential career outside of TikTok, Gallagher mentioned her longstanding interest in media. If social media did not exist, she speculated that she might have pursued a career as a secondary school teacher or a Garda, both of which she still thinks about.

In light of recent announcements that fellow social media personalities Miriam Mullins and Tadhg Fleming will participate in television shows, Gallagher expressed her happiness for them and hinted at her own potential TV opportunities, saying, 'Now, I don’t want to give too much away or jinx myself but I may have something TV-related currently in the works… fingers crossed!' She also shared aspirations to host her own TV show focused on fashion and beauty, similar to Xposé.

Gallagher's passion for fashion is evident, as she dreams of launching her own clothing brand that is stylish and caters to a diverse audience. She reminisced about her mother's boutique, Pattino’s, which sparked her love for fashion, stating, 'I would love to re-build her vision in the future.'

She advised, 'There are too many copycats on social media already, so try your best to stand out.'
