Inside Marius Borg Hoiby's Prison: A Look at Ila Detention and Security Prison

Marius Borg Hoiby was convicted on two counts of rape and several other criminal offenses on Monday. The 29-year-old was not present in court to hear his sentencing, but reports indicate that he is planning to appeal the conviction.
Prior to his trial, Marius was held at Oslo Prison but was moved to Ila Detention and Security Prison, situated just outside of Oslo, where he is currently incarcerated.
Ila Detention and Security Prison is known for housing some of Norway's most dangerous criminals, accommodating up to 124 inmates spread across 12 wings. Among the notable inmates is Anders Behring Breivik, who was sentenced for the 2011 Norway attacks. However, Marius is unlikely to encounter Breivik, as the latter is restricted from casual contact with other prisoners.
Norwegian prisons, including Ila, are recognized for their relatively comfortable living conditions. Photos released show that many rooms resemble university dormitories, featuring a bed, a wooden desk, a computer, and a wall-mounted television that provides access to 15 channels. Some computers are equipped with internet restrictions to limit inmate access to the outside world.
The prison includes communal areas designed for social interaction, furnished with dining tables similar to those found in typical homes, sofas, game consoles, windows adorned with curtains, and cooking facilities, including a microwave.
Emphasizing rehabilitation, Ila Prison contains an educational facility that resembles a standard classroom, equipped with desks, binders, and a whiteboard. Inmates have access to spaces for reading and meditation, promoting personal development.
Additionally, Ila features its own greenhouse, which allows inmates to cultivate their own food for meals. The prison also has a chapel, with some rooms repurposed for spiritual activities.
