FIFA Faces Calls to Ban England's Penalty Tactic After Croatia Match

The match saw Croatia equalize at 1-1 after Martin Baturina scored in the 36th minute. However, Kane responded just before halftime by heading in his second goal, bringing the score to 2-1. The excitement continued as Croatia equalized again, this time through Petar Musa, making it 2-2.

England's coach Thomas Tuchel delivered an effective halftime speech that inspired the team to perform better in the second half. Jude Bellingham quickly scored after the break, putting England ahead 3-2. The victory was sealed by substitute Marcus Rashford, who scored in the 85th minute, finalizing the score at 4-2.

Kane reflected on the penalty situation after the match, noting that he had observed the goalkeeper, Dominik Livaković, tended to move early during penalties. "I was 80% sure that it was off the line. I wasn't 100% sure, then obviously when it got retaken, I changed the technique a little bit," Kane explained to BBC Sport, emphasizing the importance of his research leading up to the game.

He also pointed out that even if Livaković had not encroached, Joško Gvardiol's encroachment might have warranted a retake as well. Kane commended Tuchel's halftime motivation, stating, "I thought it was a game of two halves. First half, we were OK. Really disappointed to concede in the way we did, I thought we dropped off. Credit to the manager for his speech at half-time. He said if we lose, we lose in our way, and we showed that in the second half."

Kane highlighted the team's aggressive approach after halftime, noting the challenge posed by Croatian players like Luka Modrić, and remarked on the importance of maintaining their desired intensity. He concluded by stating, "The way we controlled the game once we went ahead, we never really looked like we were in danger and then scored on the counter-attack. We had a spell where we could have scored three or four."

England's next match is scheduled against Ghana on June 23.
