Actor Faizon Love was arrested in Florida this week due to a long-running child support case, as he faces a 90-day jail sentence for contempt of court.
Comedic actor Faizon Love was apprehended this week in relation to a prolonged paternity and child support dispute in Florida, following a court's ruling that found him in contempt and mandated a jail term. The news was first reported by TMZ on Wednesday.
According to booking records, Love was arrested on Tuesday in Hillsborough County and subsequently booked into a detention facility located in Tampa, Florida, facing two counts of contempt of court. This arrest is linked to litigation initiated by Tiffany Lee, who claims that Love has significant child support obligations that remain unpaid.
Court documents reveal that a judge had previously held Love in contempt for failing to adhere to court orders regarding the child support case. Consequently, the court instructed him to surrender for a 90-day jail sentence, warning that noncompliance would lead to his arrest.
Earlier this year, Love sought relief from the court, contending that he was unable to meet the financial demands imposed upon him, which are reported to be around $250,000 in unpaid support payments. In his court submissions, Love indicated that his income had sharply declined, resulting in severe financial difficulties.
Love stated that his highest annual income over the last five years was approximately $13,000 and claimed that he had not earned any income in the past year. He also mentioned a medical incident that allegedly hindered his ability to attend a scheduled court hearing in April.
Despite Love's claims regarding his financial situation, the court permitted the contempt proceedings to progress. The presiding judge ultimately determined that Love had not complied with the court’s orders and thus mandated his detention.
This legal issue adds to the ongoing challenges faced by Love, who is known for his roles in films such as Friday, The Replacements, and Elf.
As of now, neither Love nor Tiffany Lee's representatives have made any public statements regarding the arrest. The case will continue to be addressed in court as both parties work through the child support compliance and enforcement matters.
The situation arises amidst the development of the fourth and final installment of the Friday film series, which features Ice Cube and Mike Epps, but it remains unclear whether Faizon Love will reprise his role as Big Worm in the upcoming film.
