Comedic actor Faizon Love was arrested in Florida on contempt charges related to a child support case, claiming financial hardship amid ongoing legal challenges.
Faizon Love, known for his comedic roles, was arrested this week in Florida due to a protracted paternity and child support dispute. The arrest followed a court's finding of contempt against him, which resulted in a jail sentence. This information was first reported by TMZ on Wednesday.
Booking records reveal that Love was taken into custody on Tuesday in Hillsborough County, where he was subsequently booked into a detention facility located in Tampa, Florida, facing two counts of contempt of court. The legal troubles stem from a case involving Tiffany Lee, who asserts that Love has significant outstanding child support obligations.
Court documents indicate that a judge had previously held Love in contempt for failing to adhere to court orders associated with the child support case. As a result, the court mandated that he serve a 90-day jail sentence, cautioning that noncompliance could lead to his arrest.
Earlier this year, Love attempted to contest the court's decision, claiming he was unable to meet the financial demands, which he states amount to approximately $250,000 in owed support payments. In his court filings, Love explained that his income had sharply declined and that he was facing considerable financial difficulties.
In the five years preceding his arrest, Love reported his highest annual income to be around $13,000. He also indicated that he had not earned any income over the past year. Additionally, he mentioned a medical issue that allegedly hindered him from attending a court hearing scheduled in April.
Despite Love's claims of financial hardship, the court proceeded with the contempt proceedings. The judge ultimately determined that Love had not followed the court's orders, leading to his arrest.
