Demolition Planned for President Trump’s Former Greenwich Mansion
The mansion once owned by President Trump and Ivana Trump is set for demolition, with plans for new developments including a main house and tennis courts.
The Greenwich mansion that was once owned by President Trump and Ivana Trump is scheduled to be demolished. This residence, a 19,786-square-foot Georgian style house located on the Long Island Sound in the affluent Connecticut town, was purchased by the former couple in 1982, shortly after the birth of their second child, Ivanka Trump.
After their high-profile divorce in 1992, which was influenced by President Trump’s affair with Marla Maples, Ivana retained ownership of the 1939 property, which spans 5.8 acres of waterfront land.
In 1998, financier Robert Steinberg acquired the mansion for $15 million. The property was listed on the market multiple times before it was sold again in 2024 for $31.5 million to a new owner who is now planning to demolish the existing structure.
Documents submitted to the town’s Planning & Zoning Commission indicate that the new owner intends to replace the mansion with several new amenities, including an outdoor tennis court, a swimming pool, auxiliary buildings, an indoor tennis court, and a new main residence.
Attorney John Tesei, representing the new owner, detailed in the submitted documents that the proposal involves combining three lots into a single zoning lot, removing all existing structures, and redeveloping the property entirely.
The architectural design for the new home will be executed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, a renowned firm known for notable projects such as the supertall 220 Central Park South, the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas, Texas, and the Ocean Course Club House at Kiawah Island golf club in South Carolina.
Ivana Trump mentioned the Greenwich property in her 2017 memoir, "Raising Trump," describing how she and Donald Trump chose the location by surveying potential estates from a helicopter.
