Chris Mendiola from Texas shares his story of getting a matching tattoo with his dog Bear, aiming to express love despite mixed reactions online.
Chris Mendiola, a 26-year-old resident of Texas, recently made headlines for getting a matching tattoo with his dog, Bear. This unique decision stemmed from a discovery he made when he first adopted Bear in 2010. Mendiola noticed that Bear had a small tattoo located on his underbelly, which he found disturbing, as it indicated that the dog had been tattooed.
On a Saturday, Mendiola decided to take a bold step by getting a tattoo that mirrored the one Bear had. He shared this news on Facebook, but the reaction was not what he had anticipated. Instead of receiving support or admiration, Mendiola faced criticism, as many people pointed out that such tattoos are quite common among neutered dogs, serving as a marker for their sterilization status.
The post quickly went viral, attracting attention across several social media platforms. A former high school classmate of Mendiola shared screenshots of his announcement on Reddit, which led to further spread on Twitter and other websites. As a result, Mendiola found himself the subject of ridicule on multiple platforms.
However, Mendiola clarified in an interview with BuzzFeed News that he was fully aware of the meaning behind the tattoo when he chose to get it. He expressed that he has no regrets about his decision, viewing the tattoo as a profound symbol of his affection for Bear, whom he affectionately refers to as his best friend.
