Body cam footage of Karmelo Anthony's arrest after a fatal stabbing incident has been made public, revealing emotional moments following the altercation.
Police body camera footage has been released showing Karmelo Anthony in tears following the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. The footage was made public on Friday, June 19, after a judge's ruling.
In addition to the body cam video, the judge also released stadium surveillance footage capturing the incident, along with images of the utility knife that Anthony discarded as he fled the scene.
On June 9, Anthony was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison. Judge John Roach, who oversaw the trial, explained his earlier decision to prohibit cameras in the courtroom, stating that the intention was to safeguard the judicial process, witnesses, and the jury. He emphasized the importance of transparency now that the trial has concluded, as he explained to Fox News.
The altercation occurred when Anthony, who was 17 at the time, sought shelter from rain in a tent at Memorial High School. Metcalf, also 17, asked Anthony to leave, leading to a confrontation. Witnesses reported that Anthony warned Metcalf, 'Touch me and see what happens,' before a physical exchange took place. After Metcalf reportedly 'lightly pushed' Anthony, he responded by stabbing Metcalf in the chest.
Following the stabbing, Anthony was seen fleeing the tent and ran towards the stadium exit, where he encountered Officer Eduardo Cortez. Anthony claimed he acted in self-defense during the encounter. The officer conducted two searches of Anthony after inquiring if he had any sharp objects in his possession. At the time, Anthony was dressed in a grey Essentials Fear of God hoodie and blue jogging pants.
When Cortez referred to him as the 'alleged suspect,' Anthony asserted, 'I’m not alleged, sir, I did it.' Through tears, he recounted the incident, stating, 'He put his hands on me. I told him not to, he put his hands on me.' Anthony then inquired about Metcalf's condition, asking if he was going to be okay.
The released footage includes a sequence showing both Austin Metcalf and Karmelo Anthony entering the stadium, the moments leading up to the attack, and the subsequent bodycam footage capturing Anthony's arrest.
